We recently have been made aware of a phone scam that is circulating in this area. The call states that your debit card has been deactivated and to reactivate your card call an 800 phone number.
When you call this number, an automated system answers saying that to activate your card you must enter your 16 digit debit card number. Then you are prompted to enter your expiration date, your CVC code and PIN number. After entering this information, the message says that your card has been activated.
First National Bank of Waterloo will never ask for you to input any of this information over the phone. And we do not recommend that you give this information out unless you initiate the call and you know the merchant you are calling. There should never be a reason to give your PIN number to anyone.
